Make Laundry Don’t do Laundry Tour

Welcome to my stop on the Make Laundry Don’t Do Laundry Tour! For this tour we were challenged to make something in the time it would take to do a load of laundry. Check out what I made with two patterns that you can get for FREE! Enter the link up and giveaways at the end of the post, and check out the other stops on the tour!
We were given the choice to do a “Fresh Sew” or “Go To Sew” I opted for the “Go To” and picked a couple of my favorite most sewn and worn pieces.
This is a great tee and tunic pattern that is super flattering on a lot of body types. It’s also a pattern that you can get completely free by joining the Love Notions Pattern Support Facebook group! I sewed this up in a Aqua Grunge Streaked Jersey from Cali Fabrics.
Laundry Time 1hr
The pattern comes in both a scoop neck and Vneck version. I can sew up the scoop neck in about 30 minutes. I am a little less confident with Vnecks so it took me an hour, but the vneck was well worth the time addition and will be faster for me next time.
I think I have made 7 Laundry Day Tunics so far. I like them over leggings, over slim capris like the ones above, and over pencil skirts.
The next component of my outfit is Patterns for Pirates Peg Legs. Peg Legs are a leggings pattern that is also completely free if you join the Patterns for Pirates Sewing Group on Facebook. I have 6 pairs of Peg Legs. I wear them under Laundry Day Tunics on the weekends. I also wear them under shorter dresses at work.
These Peg Legs are sewn up in some amazing supplex from Zenith and Quasar.
Laundry Time 30
I cut out and sewed these awesome leggings in less than 30 minutes!
So, laundry is done, 1.5 hours. I have a whole new outfit now so we’ll just skip the folding bit for a while 😛 . This Laundry Day Tunic and Peg Legs Combo is pretty much my weekend uniform. So comfy and cute! Go grab these free patterns and great knits and make you some, then link them up!

Spring Break PJ Party Tour and giveaways!

1-2Party Time! Spring Break PJ Party that is! Welcome to my stop on the Spring Break PJ Party tour co-hosted by Sprouting JubeJube, Lula & Celeste, Made by Jamie and Create 3.5 and the Sew Your Pattern Stash Facebook Group! 30 Bloggers sewing PJ Patterns from their Pattern Stash. Make sure to read to the bottom of this post for the daily giveaway, grand prize link up giveaway, and some discounts!

I received this pattern for participating in the EYMM All Tucked in for the Holidays tour 2014. Opinions expressed are my own.

1This was such a great idea! I am so bad about making night clothes even though they get worn the most (My daughter wears uniforms at school) I knew exactly what I wanted to make. The Riley’s Nightgown and Nightshirt from EYMM!

3I have had this pattern in my stash since I made it for the All Tucked in for the Holiday’s tour 2014. My daughter still wears the Christmas Tree version a couple of times a week. That was handy back in Dec 2015 because I didn’t need to make new Christmas PJs, but I think its about time to put the Christmas tree away for a while.

6I love this pattern. Simple Raglan nighty with cute little side slits. I made the nightshirt version instead of gown version this time since we are heading into warm weather but its great that it has both options. I love the length on this. It sews up quick (Less than an hour for me). It’s a good scrap buster since you can use different sleeve fabric. I also love that it is one piece. My daughter leaves PJs all over and freaks out if two piece PJs don’t match. This eliminates the problem plus, less laundry! I need to make a grown up one for myself.

Showing me her MAD face 😛 This is what I get when I ask her to pose 😛

I’m also soooo in love with this fabric. I used Verhees Rolling Robots in Pink from Mabel Madison. It’s also available in Blue. Verhees is a Euro knit. So buttery soft and such cute prints! I have enough left to make another top! Check out the bottom of this post for a Mabel Madison discount!

5The Stars are from my stash. They were purchased from BWD Fabrics but appear out of stock. 2You can see in the first photo that my neckline is a little big. This is my own fault. I cut the pattern piece for the neckband on the the wrong size (too small) and then thought I’d wing it instead of re-printing. I didn’t quite get it right. I have since re-printed the neckband piece and in the spirit of sewing from my stash I have cut out 3 more night shirts! This should get us by for quite a while.

Leprechauns and Rainbows – For the Love of Legends

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!! Welcome to my hop on the Love of Legends Blog tour hosted by Phat Quarters and Craftingcon! Make sure to read to the bottom of this post for a giveaway from our amazing sponsors and link up for a chance to win a copy of One Thimble Magazine!

I was so excited to be part of this tour. Legends are so much fun! I had a hard time narrowing down but in the end my posting date made up my mind for me. I decided to tackle the Leprechaun! I wanted to do a Leprechaun inspired casual outfit that would be fun to wear today but that would also be good for wearing after today.

Only one problem, I could hear my daughter’s 5 year old voice in my head “Green is not my favorite color, Mom” to head off that battle I decided that every Leprechaun needed their own rainbow =)

I used the Blaverry Finn for the top, I love this pattern, I have used it several times and it always makes up so cute! I added the Lucky Day design from the Sihlouette Store in some Heat Transfer Glitter Vinyl.

The pants are the awesome Just Chillin Sweats from Momma Quail patterns. I have made these sooo many times since I have the pattern. They are super versatile since you can make them in knit or woven, lined or reversed. These are done up in Jungle Peppered Cotton from Phat Quarters. The peppered cotton is super cool, I love the color variation!

I love the green on her. She loves the rainbow and the glitter. She is so excited to wear her outfit to school today (She usually has to wear uniforms)

Sunday Lately Week #62 – Doing, Appreciating, Designing, Humming and Expecting

Welcome to Sunday Lately, a weekly brain dump hosted by the Blogger Tribe. If you have a blog, we’d love to have you join us and Link up! This week’s linkup can be found at Wild+Wanderful!

This week’s themes: Doing, Appreciating, Designing, Humming, and Expecting.

Lots of little things to get ready for vacation. I dyed my hair last night and went to get my eyebrows done. The woman who has done my eyebrows for 10 years sold the shop and I had to use the new person. I was freaking out on the inside but it went fine. I am pretty picky about the experience of getting hair ripped off my face. Mostly I need them not to talk to me when they are doing it as thats pretty much the only thing keeping me from screaming. Its not that it hurts that much, and only for a second but they usually surprise you and if Im in the middle of chit chat, there’s no telling what might come out of my mouth :p

My husband. He turned 45 on Friday. We went to Pappadeux for lunch yesterday to celebrate. He’s such an awesome husband and dad, and he’s about to drive us 9 hours both ways to visit my family next week. I think I’ll keep him.

Mad rush to finish up projects before we leave next Saturday. In process is a Leprechaun and Rainbows inspired outfit for St Patricks Day. I just need to do some glitter vinyl on the top and finish up the pants.

I hope to finish up today and then spend the rest of the week focusing on adorable baby things for my niece. It’s so refreshing to cut and sew baby things again. I miss how small they are.

Fresh Beat and of Spies theme song. That’s whats going on for cartoons this morning.

This week to be insane. It always is leading up to vacation. I will be working this week. Lots of things to finish up and hand off there, sewing projects to finish up and I haven’t even started thinking about packing. At least we are driving so I can overpack my heart out.

My kid is more on the ball than me, she woke up at 6 this morning and “packed” this little pile of things for “her babies” ..because I dunno how we’d get by for 4 days without a doll toilet 😛

Sunday Lately Week # 61 – Planning, Loving, Reading, Wishing and Feeling

Welcome to Sunday Lately, a weekly brain dump hosted by the Blogger Tribe. If you have a blog, we’d love to have you join us and Link up! This week’s linkup can be found at Wild+Wanderful!

This weeks themes are Planning, Loving, Reading, Wishing and Feeling.

Vacation! Two weeks and I go home to Arkansas to visit family. I am super excited about the trip. Hotels booked, Pet Care booked. I have one more sewing project to do for the blog and then a few outfits to make for my niece, shopping for supplies to take with us ,and then packing. I have things to do at work to prep for being gone too.Its so much work to go on vacation but they are sooo needed.

Loving IMG_6749

My new glasses. I went to the eye doctor a week ago and needed glasses. I knew this already because my close up vision was getting really blurry and I was getting headaches. Since my glasses were going to take a week to come in I got some inexpensive readers temporarily. The experience of wearing the readers really had me worried. They would slip all the time. I could see better but around the edges things would distort. Between that and taking them off and on all the time I spent much of my days kind of dizzy.

My real glasses shown above arrived last night and the experience is soooo much better. They stay on my face. The lenses are big enough that I can see everywhere without distortion. I haven’t been dizzy with them. This is finally better than not having them at all.

Catching up on blogs today. I was so busy over the past week I have not been able to follow hardly anything. I feel so out of the loop on everything. Hope to do some catch up today in between my weekly prep.

Wishing for continued success on my Paleo plan. This week was crazy for me and I barely thought about eating, I just did. I ate on plan but there was way more snacking than usual. I ate more things that are technically on plan but more carby than I usually eat, like potatoes 3x this week when i usually just have them once. I thought for sure it was going to be a wash this week but I’m down another 3 lbs. I guess this is to say that I am having an easy time doing this and i feel somewhat guilty and somewhat suspicious. It can’t really be this easy right? I guess I will keep on keeping on at this point and then look to change something if I stop getting results and don’t feel I’m finished.

Accomplished! I ended up participating in all 4 sewalong weeks for Project Run and Play. Not that its a huge accomplishment but I had worked out with the other stuff going on that I’d be able to do 2 of them. My original plans I executed were:

Nothing but Knits week.

Cosplay Week

Then I had a random great idea and ended up making kiddo a soccer outfit.

All that Glitters Week

Once I did 3 it felt wrong to not do the last one so

Signature Style Week

I had other projects in between too and a lot going on at work and home. I barely made it on this last one. I had the pants done on Tuesday and the tunic cut out. I only had time in my schedule to sew on Friday night and had to get it submitted on Saturday. I made it though!

For real I love every single piece I made for this. They are all good for spring and they all have piece that mix and match well so I am very happy to have pushed through and sewed them all. As I mentioned I have more sewing to do in the next two weeks. I am usually sad I can’t sew on vacation but this time I think the break will be appreciated =)

Signature Style

This is the last week of Project Run and Play Sewalong themes for this season and I am so happy I was able to participate in all of them! This one just barely as I have about an hour left to get it in, but done!

The final theme was Signature Style. I had two fabrics that the little wanted me to sew up asap. The other yard/color of sparkle fabric that I purchased at Joanns for the All that Glitters week project, and a Euro print from Loiseau that has fairies and unicorns and all kinds of girly. My challenge was to make kiddo happy and turn these into something that represented my Signature Style.

Playing with print and color are probably my favorite things about sewing. I love designing outfits. I love mixing prints and aligning the overall color balance of an outfit. I rarely use neutrals, I rarely use solids unless they are textured.

I love patterns that are easy to wear and play in but have interesting design elements. For this look I chose the Sofilantjes Nivalis Tunic. This tunic/dress set is super cute and has tons of design pizazz. I especially loved that there was a collar detail that would work well in my warm climate. I knew I wanted to make the short sleeve collared version. I think I will make a short sleeve hoodie dress next. The outfit is predominantly knit but I used Stenzo poplin from Mabel Madison on the collar placket and side tabs.

For the sparkle pants I used the Momma Quail Just Chillin Sweats again. They have been my go-to pant as of late because my daughter loves wearing them and they sew up equally fabulous in both wovens and knits. For this pair I did a slight modification by adding side tabs to hike up the outside seams and somewhat mirror the tabs on the tunic.

IMG_6705The sweats have a cute pocket detail that allows mixing in some additional fabrics. 3

I used the Delia Creates Free Ribbed Beanie Pattern to make a hat out of the sparkle fabric. We love hats over here. Beanies, bucket hats, my daughter wears hats all year and I love to make them.

I added a felt flower to the snap on the collar placket. Felt is such a great way to add a little detail and it especially works well to reinforce snaps =)

I think I succeeded in putting together a look that met my daughters requests but kept to my aesthetic. These pieces are great together but as is always important to me they will mix with all kinds of pieces in her closet.

Sunday Lately Week #60 Completing, Visiting, Repeating, Writing and Scheduling.

Welcome to Sunday Lately, a weekly brain dump hosted by the Blogger Tribe. If you have a blog, we’d love to have you join us and Link up! This week’s linkup can be found at Wild+Wanderful!

This weeks themes are Completing, Visiting, Repeating, Writing, Scheduling.

I just barely completed my Project Run and Play Sewalong entry this week and that was soooo frustrating. I was able to get it in a few hours before the deadline. I had come up with the idea a couple of weeks ago. I ordered some glitter vinyl. It was shipped promptly from the supplier but somehow USPS had it on the super slow track. I had the whole outfit ready just waiting on the glitter, Tracking said it was getting delivered Friday. It showed up at 3:30 yesterday. I have only used my silhouette once before so I was super stressed out trying to get the letters cut and on the shirt before it got dark. Everything turned out fine but ahh traumatized 😛

Visiting the eye doctor tomorrow! At this point I am super excited to get glasses. I had to wait a while for the appointment and Ive been getting headaches not to mention the stuff I screw up or take longer to do because I can’t flipping see. I am anxious about finding a pair of frames I like though. I really wanted some Kate Spade frames. Only because my friend had a pair in a certain shape that she carries that I tried on and looked fantastic on me. The place I am going doesn’t carry Kate Spade but I am hoping I can find a similar shape.

Tie Dye.. I loved the dyed piece I did for the Disney Descendants look. I have been buying fabric for spring/summer for clothes for myself. I realized I had been gravitating to tie dye prints and was worrying that a bunch of tie dye might be too hippie. I was relieved to see Tie Dye all over spring clothes in Target yesterday.

IMG_6643 IMG_6644

So, I guess I will be on trend 😛 Here are a couple pieces I bought.

They are darker but will go with the light pink and light blue accessories I plan to sport.  This Rebecca Minkoff Envelope clutch in Graffiti Print which is a blue/pink tie dye kind of look and a new pair of pink and black fluevogs.

Happy to be writing Sunday Lately again. I missed last week and really missed it. I have been covered up in sewing projects. Last weekend I took my daughter to a birthday party at one of those jumping places. She woke up at 3am puking so my Sunday was off. Happy to be back to normal-ish this week. I don’t schedule these ahead of time because they fit in so nicely with my normal Sunday routine.

I liked to look at Sundays like a palate cleanser. Its a special day for me. I like to start with reflecting on the past week. What worked, what didn’t as far as work, schedule, sewing/blogging, meals, parenting, friends and family, personal goals. Then I take some time to plan the up coming week. The rest of the day is spent prepping for next week. Grocery shopping, meal prep, some cleaning and organizing.. Sunday evenings I like to have a good meal and then wine and relaxation. I’ve been using this approach for about 3 years and it has made a huge positive difference in how my life works.

March Already! This month has flown by. Feb is only a couple of days shorter than the other months but it always seems very short. I will be very busy sewing/blogging for the next 3 weeks and then I will need to slow down a bit. If someone could loan me about 8 hours a day, that would be great!

Get your game face on! All that glitters – Soccer Edition

Sewing along with Project Run and Play again. This week the theme is All that Glitters. I had not originally planned to sew along this week but sometimes inspiration hits and you just have to run with it. I had convinced myself we didn’t need any fancy clothes right now and I did not have any glitter in the house. I was content with my decision until little miss reminded me that I told her I would make her soccer clothes.

She recently started playing soccer as one of the electives at her school. With the program she is in she was supposed to get a shirt to wear on soccer days but they were temporarily out in her size. I told her I could make her a soccer shirt. I then realized that sparkly pink soccer clothes would be pretty awesome =)

I went to Joanns and picked up the pink sequin activewear fabric. I had everything else except some glitter vinyl. This post almost didn’t happen tonight because the vinyl shipped sometime last week and did not make it to me until around 3:30 this afternoon!! I had everything else ready but I haven’t used my silhouette a ton so it was a bit stressful trying to finish up and get photos last minute.

For the top I used Finn by Blaverry. Finn is a peplum top that I used last week for the Disney Descendants look. I really love the shoulder detail option available with the pattern and thought it would be perfect for a soccer tee. I left off the peplum and drew out the bodice straight down around 3 inches. I probably should have flared it out a bit more toward the bottom. I will next time because she already wants more soccer shirts 😛

For the shorts I used the free City Gym Shorts pattern from Purl Soho. This was a first time make. They turned out super cute. We will make more of these for sure!

I did do a slight modification and made a knit waistband instead of using elastic. The shorts are made in one of my favorite Stenzo Poplin prints from Mabel Madison. I used the sparkly activewear from Joanns as the bias trim.

I let her help me pick some soccer themed designs from the Silhouette Store. She decided on soccer girl for the front.

The word “Soccer” and a swish for the back. She made good choices I think =) The striped fabric is from my stash originally from Chez Ami who are out of business sadly =( They always had a great stock of knits and also sold high quality children’s clothes. An interesting thing I just found out is that Patty Aiken Designs who ran Chez Ami now has all of Chez Ami’s patterns available.  I will need to check those out!

So now we’re up! The Rocks playing the Rolls! Actually I’m told it was Tigers Vs Sharks. She’s a Tiger can’t ya tell!

Talking some smack to the Sharks.

Despite the stress of trying to get the glitter done in time to take photos before dark this was a fun and easy little project to work on. Kid has some super cute soccer clothes and I got to get my glitter on!

I had only planned to sew along two weeks but now that I’ve done 3 I feel I need to do next week’s too so you will see me back here next week =)

Sew Yourself Some Love!

Welcome to my stop n the Pattern Revolution Sew Yourself Some Love 2016 Blog Tour! As I mentioned last week it’s been all kid sewing all the time the past few months. I have changed sizes recently and things were getting dire. Pattern Revolution putting out a call to sew some things for ourselves was just what I needed to get in gear. I chose to sew the Patterns for Pirates Slim Fit Raglan and WinterWear Designs Womens Aviator Pants!

I was provided a copy of the Slim Fit Raglan for the Tour. Opinions expressed are my own.

I recently won a yard of Stenzo Love Lines in Purple in a giveaway from one of my favorite shops Mabel Madison. I knew immediately I wanted to make a raglan for myself so I tried out the Slim Fit Raglan from Patterns for Pirates. I was right between 1X and 2X for this one. I would normally size up in that case but I have been going down in sizes so went with the straight 1x. I like the fit of this a lot, snug in the bust and a little more ease through the midsection. I think it will still look great if I lose more weight and it ends up a little more loose.

I also made the WinterWear Designs Aviator Pants. I tested these originally and still love them. I made them with the yoga waist out of a lightweight stretch denim. I used the knit cuffed leg option. These are so comfy like wearing pajamas but they are super cute totally legit pants.

This was the first time I did the triangle insert option and I am in love. For the triangle pieces I used the same denim but added a lace overlay. To do the overlay I just cut the same pieces out of lace, put them on top of the denim pieces and basted them on. Once I had the lace on the triangle pieces I just sewed up the pattern as stated.

I love both of my new pieces. They are great transition items into spring and will mix in well with my existing wardrobe.

Now it’s your turn! Sew something for yourself! Enter it in the Sew Yourself Some Love Link up for a chance to win one of 3 amazing prize packages including patterns and fabric to sew them with!
